Welcome from Vice-Chancellor and CEO, Professor Jane Harrington
It is with great pleasure and pride that I welcome each of you to this digital showcase, highlighting the extraordinary impact that our alumni, supporters, and friends have on our community.
The magazine is named in recognition of our long history. It is transformed to celebrate the modern university we are today. We have so much to share with you from the last year and have selected several highlights within.
The 1890 shines a light on alumni whose journeys beyond our campuses resonate with our values, including the outstanding alumni from our LGBT+ community as featured in our latest series of Greenwich Portraits.
Joining our global alumni community are our honorary graduates who share our commitment to education, as evidenced by their important contributions to society, the local community, or the university.
Our dedicated donors and volunteers are equally significant; their generosity supports us in delivering Education Without Boundaries. Read on to understand their impact, ways you might get involved, and to see who else has joined our ever-growing supporter roll. Thank you to all listed in this year’s Supporter Roll, not forgetting those who have given anonymously.
The last year has witnessed several important anniversaries that have a special significance to our community today, including 75 years of the NHS and 75 years since HMT Empire Windrush became a symbol for post war migration. Windrush 75 provides an opportunity to celebrate British Caribbean communities while acknowledging their sacrifice. It is poignant that in the same year, we also marked 30 years since Stephen Lawrence was murdered in an unprovoked racist attack. Further on, you will find out how, with your help, we can continue to honour Stephen’s life and legacy.
I invite you to explore these pages and witness the profound impact of our extended university family. As a community, we have no limits to what we can achieve.
Thank you.
