The Football Foundation supports the Stephen Lawrence Scholarship
IIn July 2025, the Football Foundation joined us in supporting the Stephen Lawrence Scholarship, named in memory of Stephen Lawrence and inspired by our long-standing relationship with Stephen’s mother, Baroness Lawrence, who has been a tireless champion of opportunity and justice.
Thanks to the Football Foundation, an aspiring architect has been able to undertake a two-year postgraduate qualification and overcome the financial barriers that so often prevent talented individuals from underrepresented backgrounds from entering the profession. The announcement took place at Charlton Athletic FC's Training Ground, itself a recipient of £350,000 in Football Foundation funding, a fitting setting that reflects the shared commitment to creating opportunity across south-east London.
University of Greenwich ranked seventh in People and Planet University League
In 2025, the People and Planet University League ranked UK universities according to 14 criteria including: Environmental policy, auditing and human resources, as well as an institution’s performance in areas such as carbon reduction, waste and water recycling, student engagement, education for sustainable development, energy sources, sustainable food and workers’ rights.
The ranking combines information made public by universities online, with raw data obtained from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) 2023/2024.
University of Greenwich recognised as “Most Impactful University on Africa
The University of Greenwich has been named Most Impactful University on Africa at the 2025 TINE Africa Awards, a leading international education awards platform recognising institutions making a meaningful contribution to student mobility, access, and partnership across the African continent.
This recognition reflects the university's long-term commitment to education without boundaries, grounded in widening access, building meaningful international partnerships, and creating clear, trusted pathways for students from Africa to succeed in UK higher education.
Faculty of Engineering and Science builds momentum with wave of New Knowledge Transfer Partnerships
The Faculty of Engineering and Science is expanding its portfolio of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs), with three new projects now underway that connect Greenwich researchers with businesses facing complex, real-world challenges.
KTPs are funded by Innovate UK and work by embedding a highly skilled graduate within a business, supported by academic supervision from the university. The model is deliberately hands-on: rather than a consultancy report or a one-off engagement, a KTP places cutting-edge research at the heart of a company's operations for the duration of the project — often with transformative results.
The Faculty's latest cohort spans two departments and three very different sectors.
AELLCA Project: strong progress with the British Council
Our AELLCA project with the British Council, delivered between the Faculty of Law, Arts, and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Education of Health and Human Sciences, is going from strength to strength. We've successfully run a series of online sessions, both synchronous and asynchronous, and recently had the pleasure of welcoming colleagues from Tajikistan to campus. Huge thanks to our TESOL team, Elizabeth Hollis-Watts, Anna Costantino, and Vicens Colomer Dominguez, whose excellent work continues to drive this project forward.
SHIFT labs transforming performance and research spaces with Stage Electrics
Our university’s Shared Hub for Immersive Future Technologies (SHIFT) has collaborated with Stage Electrics on a transformation project to create cutting-edge facilities for theatre and sound immersion creative spaces.
The project comprised of developing an immersive digital theatre at Bathway in Woolwich, and a new spatial audio and virtual reality lab within the King William Building, on our Greenwich campus.
Designed in partnership by Professor Andrew Knight-Hill and Dr Dave Hockham, and expertly implemented by Stage Electrics, both spaces now facilitate innovative research, experimental theatre, and hands-on learning.
At Bathway Theatre, Stage Electrics developed a modular system including a 360° screen and adaptive speaker arrays, enabling users to configure the space to suit a range of immersive experiences. A raise-and-lower rigging system was introduced to reduce working at height, improving safety and accessibility for students.
Health education and training inquiry event welcomes MPs and policy leaders
We welcomed MPs, NHS executives and policy leaders for a Health Education & Training Inquiry event. Students from Paramedic Science and Children's Nursing shared their experiences, while an immersive simulation at GLASC demonstrated real-world healthcare scenarios. The event highlighted Greenwich's commitment to innovative, student-centred health education and workforce development.
Playing a key role in one of the UK's first early years teacher apprenticeships
We are one of the first providers in the country to take part in the government-funded early years teacher degree apprenticeship scheme — and we helped shape it, working directly with the Department for Education on its design. The programme will support around 400 early years staff to earn a degree while continuing to work and earn a wage in nurseries and early years settings.
MA Marketing Management earns internationally recognised accreditation
Our MA Marketing Management has been awarded accreditation by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) — a globally respected mark of excellence in business education. The accreditation has been extended for a further three years, reaffirming the degree as a rigorously peer-reviewed programme with international standing.
Greenwich Business School secures Small Business Charter reaccreditation for next five years
The Business School have been awarded five years with all 28 dimensions that were applied for.
University of Greenwich academic judges Royal Borough of Greenwich business awards
Associate Professor and Associate Head of the Executive Business Centre, Dr Hetty (Wenxian) Sun joined the judging panel for the second year in a row.
