To our alumni, our partners and our generous supporters,
This edition of The 1890 is full of stories that remind me why I love this work.
A young architect taking their first step into the profession thanks to the Stephen Lawrence Scholarship. Students discovering career paths they never knew existed through Make it Make Sense. An alumnus who was let in on a concessional entry to Thames Polytechnic, went on to found a net zero business, and is now one of our honorary graduates and strategic partners. These things don't happen by accident. They happen because people like you give your time, your expertise and your support.
This has been a landmark year. We launched the Devonport House Campaign to create a new home for Greenwich Business School — a £100 million vision to reimagine business education and open doors for students from every background. We welcomed our first cohort of honorary graduates who reflect the breadth and ambition of our community. And in May 2025, we hosted our first ever reunion for pre-2000 alumni, bringing together graduates from across the Woolwich Polytechnic, Thames Polytechnic and University of Greenwich eras. Many were visiting the Greenwich campus for the first time, and the energy in the room was something I won't forget.
If you were there, thank you. If you weren't, we hope to see you next time.
None of this is possible without you. Whether you volunteer as a mentor, donate to the Annual Fund, partner with us on research or simply share this magazine with a former classmate, every contribution counts. The 1890 takes its name from the year we were founded — through philanthropy and a belief that education should be open to everyone. That founding spirit is alive in every gift, every connection and every story in these pages.
If you'd like to collaborate, reconnect or make a gift, please get in touch with me or any of my colleagues below. We'd love to hear from you.
